How to Maintain Hardwood Flooring

A few years ago, I had hardwood flooring installed in my home. I loved it at first. However, in recent months, I had noticed that the flooring was starting to look a little dull and there were several scratch marks. I didn't know what to do so I made contact with the flooring company which had completed the original work. They sent a contractor out to my home and he got to work restoring the flooring so it looked as good as new. He also gave me lots of useful advice which has helped me to maintain my hardwood flooring.

Why Timber Floors Get Better With Age

by Regina Herrera

Timber has been a material used in construction around the world for thousands of years. Not only is it very easy to shape to your will, but it has very strong intrinsic properties that make it sought after by millions of people. However, one quality that is hard to quantify is just how uniquely beautiful wood is, and that is perhaps why it has endured as a flooring option for so long. There is perhaps no more naturally appealing flooring option on the market, and timber floors only get better with age. Here are three reasons why age actually makes your timber floor look better.

Rustic Feel

Perhaps one of the main reasons why timber floors are so popular is that they give a 'country' feeling to your home. For people who like that rustic aesthetic, timber floors scratch an itch that is otherwise hard to please when it comes to flooring. This look does not diminish over time; in fact, the rustic aesthetic only gets better with age. The timber can change, either by exposure to sunlight or just wear due to foot traffic. This is not something to be scared of, as it only adds to the rustic, country qualities people expect from their timber floors.

Adds More Character

Many people love the unique patterns that you find in timber floors because they signify that this is truly a one-of-a-kind piece. In the same vein, as your timber floors get older, they get even more unique and storied, with memories etched in the surface. A little scratch from your first dog here, an indent from where you used to have your couch positioned there — it all adds to the character of your timber floors in a way that would look tacky or untidy on other flooring materials.

Sign Of Quality

Modern flooring materials often can start to show signs of wear relatively quickly. Linoleum flooring will show tears, carpet will become noticeably thin and even tiles may crack due to heavy objects being dropped every once in a while. Timber floors can take everything those flooring types can and more while still maintaining their visual appeal. Many of the oldest surviving buildings still have original timber flooring that looks great to this day. If you don't want to worry about having to maintain your flooring in the long run, then timber is your answer. Once you've installed it, you will barely ever have to think about it again, apart from to admire its beauty as it gracefully ages with you.
